Jeannie S. Huang, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Huang joined Children’s Specialists Division of Gastroenterology in September 2002 after she completed her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. She also is an assistant professor at UCSD and collaborates with HIV researchers at the AntiViral Research Center in San Diego.
She earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a master’s degree in public health from Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
Currently, Dr. Huang receives funding for her HIV research from the National Institutes of Health and Center for AIDS Research at UCSD. The UCSD Academic Senate also supports her research, which investigates how HIV infection and HIV medications affect the body and body composition. Eventually, she would like to focus most of her research toward nutrition in children. She is presently involved in a study of community awareness of childhood obesity.

Dr. Huang also has been pursuing clinical research interests in the area of pediatric obesity. In particular, she is interested in clinical variables that contribute to the development of obesity in children, including cultural factors, family and environmental factors, and body image perception. She has received funding for several pilot projects in these areas.
